Hello. Here’s a little bit about me! I am a British journalist and presenter with 25 years’ experience in BBC and commercial radio, and author on broadcasting and social media.
As well as writing the world’s first book on live-streaming, ‘Up Your Periscope’, I am the author of ‘Essential Tweeting Skills for Radio Stations’, ‘Essential Radio Skills’, ‘Essential Radio Journalism’ (publ: Methuen Drama), and ‘Broadcast Journalism’ (publ: Focal Press) which are core texts in several languages.
As well as broadcasting, I uses Periscope for the BBC and in 2014 was a key player in a project for BBC English regions on the integration of social media into the Corporation’s newsrooms. In 2015 I wrote a paper for the University of Cardiff’s media/journalism department on the use of live-streaming for news media.
In my 3 years with the BBC’s journalism training department I devised and led broadcast presentation and production courses for all levels of the Corporation’s staff. My weekly broadcast journalism coaching articles for the British ‘Radio Magazine’ (2001-10) was read by thousands, and my monthly BBC email of broadcast presentation advice had a worldwide subscriber list of 7,000.
I’ve presented a wide variety of radio and TV programmes, hosted debates, events and award-ceremonies, and am the recipient of a New York International Radio Award. I also have qualifications in advertising and marketing.
